Jaw and Tongue Release

To soften a held jaw and signal safety.

Why it helps

The jaw is one of the first places we brace. Letting the tongue fall away from the roof of the mouth releases a surprising amount of low-grade tension through the face and throat.

How to practice

  1. 1

Let your lips touch gently, teeth apart.

  2. 2

Drop your tongue from the roof of your mouth.

  3. 3

Exhale a soft sigh through the mouth.

  4. 4

Let the corners of your jaw soften.

  5. 5

    Repeat three to five times.
